NORTHFIELD, Minn. - First-year runner
Benjamin Bitter set a new MLC record as part of a strong performance by the Martin Luther College men's track and field team at the Carleton Relays on Saturday.
Bitter finished first in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase event with a new MLC record time of 9:40.37. That time beat the previous record of 9:52.03 set by Chris Johnson in March of 1996, and also represents the top time in that event in the UMAC this season.
Bitter was also part of the Knights 4x400 relay team that finished sixth. Other members of that relay team were
Caleb VonDeylen,
Jacob Melso and
Jesse Rider.
Elsewhere in the running events, Melso finished ninth (of 25) in the 400 Meters, while
Micah Jarvis finished 22nd in the 200 Meter Dash.
Rider also had a strong performance in the High Jump with a fifth place finish, while
Martin Loescher (14th) finished in the top 15 in the Javelin Throw.Â
MLC will return to action on Thursday, April 27, when it participates in the Macalester Twilight event, which is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
