PLYMOUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team swept all three of its games at the Plymouth Dome on Friday. The Knights defeated Maranatha Baptist twice in five innings by the scores of 11-2 and 8-0, and added a 14-1 win in five innings over North Central in between the two games against MBU.
MLC 11, MBU 2 (5 innings)The Knights opened the day with an 11-2 win over MBU Friday morning.
Megan Lemke got the Knights going with a three-run inside the park home run in the first inning, and MLC would never look back from that point.
MLC finished the game with ten hits, while starting pitcher
Kathryn Marquardt held the Sabercats to five hits.Â
Audrey Timm led MLC at the plate with three hits, three runs batted in, and two runs scored. She also stole a pair of bases.
Rachel Haugly also finished with three hits and two runs scored, while
Jessica Friebe scored three runs to go with two hits and two stolen bases.Â
Marquardt earned the win for MLC, moving to 1-4 on the season after allowing two runs on five hits and four strikeouts.Â
MLC 14, NCU 1 (5 innings)The Knights continued the momentum of their first win of the season with a 14-1 win over North Central in five innings.
Starting pitcher
Amanda Schoch earned her first career win for MLC, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out five in five innings of work.
At the plate, the Knights continued to roll with ten hits. Friebe scored three runs for the second straight game, while Timm, Schoch and
Kelli Doell each crossed home plate twice. Lemke finished with a team-best two hits, while Haugly drove in four runs thanks to a sacrifice fly in the second inning, and a three-run double in the Knights' seven-run third inning.
MLC 8, MBU 0 (5 innings)MLC closed the day with a clean 8-0 win over Marantha to earn the Friday sweep.
Kelli Doell started the game for MLC and pitched the shutout, allowing only four hits while striking out three and not walking any Sabercat hitters. She improved to 1-2 on the season.Â
She was helped by a steady defense behind her, as the Knights made every play and weren't charged with any errors in the game.
Doell also helped her own cause at the plate, finishing with a team-best four runs batted in thanks to a pair of doubles. Doell, Lemke and Friebe each finished with two hits apiece, with Lemke also scoring three runs.
The Knights improved their record to 3-8 on the season with the three wins. They will return to action on March 31, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran for a double header. First pitch of game one against the Vikings is scheduled for 4 p.m.Â
