Softball Drops Two at Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Crown Tuesday by the scores of 5-0 and 10-2.

GAME 1

The Knights were unable to string together any offense in a 5-0 game one loss.

Kathryn Marquardt started the game and went the distance for MLC, allowing five runs on only six hits while striking out five, but the Knights were able to muster only three hits on offense for the game.

The Storm took the lead with a two-run third inning, and then put the game away with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth frame.

Marquardt fell to 4-8 on the season in defeat.

Megan Lemke, Janelle Radue and Audrey Timm each finished with one hit for MLC.

GAME 2

Crown was able to complete the sweep with a 10-2 win in game two.

The Storm scored twice in the first inning, and then added seven more runs in the second to take command of the game.

MLC starting pitcher Amanda Schoch allowed nine runs (five earned) on six hits in 1.2 innings. She struggled with her command as she walked three and threw two wild pitches. Her record fell to 3-5 this season in defeat.

Olivia Knudsen and Kelli Doell drove in the runs for MLC.

MLC fell to 8-17 overall and 5-9 in UMAC play with the two losses. Crown improved its record to 15-19 this season and 11-3 in conference play with the two wins.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 30, when they host Northwestern in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
