ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at the Irish Sports Dome against Macalester by the scores of 6-3 and 11-3 on Saturday.
Macalester 6, MLC 3
The Knights were unable to overcome an early deficit in a 6-3 game one loss.
The Scots jumped on top with one run in the first inning, and then took control with four runs in the fourth inning off MLC starting pitcher
Rebecca Pruss.
Trailing 6-0 in bottom of the sixth inning, the Knights rallied to score three runs to cut the deficit in half, but were unable to come all the way back in the final inning.
Pruss (2-2) took the loss after allowing six runs on 12 hits in 5.0 innings.
The Knights finished with four hits, with
Amanda Schoch,
Megan Lemke and
Audrey Timm each recording at least one hit and one run.
Macalester 11, MLC 3 (6 innings)
The Scots jumped on top early and never looked back in an 11-3 game two win over MLC.
Macalester scored four runs in the first inning, and then added five more in the second frame off MLC starting pitcher
Morgan Palubicki to take a big early lead.
Schoch led the MLC offense with three hits and one run scored, but the Knights were never able to get back into the game after the early deficit.
Jessica Friebe scored one of the team's three runs, while Timm and
Kelli Doell each drove in one run apiece.
Palubicki (2-2) allowed nine runs on ten hits in 2.0 innings in defeat for MLC.
The Knights fell to 5-6 on the season following the two defeats, while the sweep pushed Macalester's record to 11-5 this season.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, March 28, when it hosts Bethany Lutheran College in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
