NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team splits its non-conference doubleheader against University of Minnesota Morris on Monday. The Knights lost game one 4-1, but came back to win game two 13-9.
UMM 4, MLC 1
The Cougars pounded 15 hits off MLC pitchers on the way to a 4-1 win in game one.
The Knights scored first thanks to an
Audrey Timm sacrifice fly in the first inning, but the Cougars answered with one run in both the second and third innings, and then scored two more in the fourth to push the lead to 4-1.
MLC starting pitcher
Morgan Palubicki (3-8) allowed two runs on seven hits in four innings.
Kelli Doell relieved her after three innings and allowed two runs on eight hits before Palubicki re-entered the game to pitch the seventh inning.
The Knights were held to four hits, with
Amanda Schoch, Cassie Doering, Doell and Timm each recording one.
MLC 13, UMM 9
The Knights' offense came to life in a 13-9 win in game two.
MLC finished with 16 hits in the second game, with first-year outfielder
Rebecca Doering leading the way with three hits to go with three runs scored.
Jessica Friebe,
Kayla Rosenbaum,
Megan Lemke,
Aimee Ashman, Doell, and Timm each finished with two hits.Â
The Knights scored four times in the first inning, and then put the game away late with nine runs in their last three at bats.
That offense was more than enough for starting pitcher
Rebecca Pruss (4-4), who pitched the first six innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits.Â
MLC moved to 11-16 on the season following the split, while UMM's record is now 5-25.
These two teams will meet once again on Wednesday, April 19, when the Cougars host a doubleheader scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
