DULUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader at St. Scholastica on Saturday by the scores of 12-0 and 10-0.
CSS 12, MLC 0 (7 innings)
The Knights struggled at the plate and in the field in a 12-0 loss in game one.
MLC was held to only one hit (a
Jason Lindemann single in the first inning), and also committed seven errors behind pitchers
Adam Kock and
Andrew Mantz that allowed seven unearned runs to score for CSS.
Kock (1-3) started the game and allowed 10 runs (five earned) on nine hits in 3.1 innings. Mantz pitched the final 2.2 innings in relief, allowing two unearned runs on one hit.
CSS did most of its damage in two big innings. The Saints scored five times off Kock in the second inning, and then scored six more in the fourth off both MLC pitchers.
CSS 10, MLC 0 (7 innings)
The Saints once again held the MLC bats down on the way to a 10-0 win in game two.
The MLC offense was held to two hits in the game, with first-year outfielders
Caleb Christopher and
Adam Westra each recording one. Westra also added a stolen base in the game.
CSS scored six times off MLC starting pitcher
Dillon Solomon (0-4), who pitched for the first three innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits and four walks before relievers
Nate Goelzer and
Tyler Roecker finished the game.
MLC fell to 4-18 overall and 0-8 in UMAC play following the two defeats. CSS improved to 21-6 on the season and 10-0 in league play with the sweep.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, April 25, when they travel to Minnesota Morris for a conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
