St. Bonifacius, MN - MLC softball played their best game of the season in a
15-1 win over North Central on Friday afternoon at the Crown Crossover. MLC would play their second game of the crossover against Northwestern, but fell in that one
12-0.
MLC 15, North Central 1
MLC exploded for 19 hits and 15 runs in their five inning game against North Central.
The Knights held a 2-0 lead through two innings and then put together a game-changing top of the third inning when they rallied off six runs, making the score 8-0. MLC followed that big inning with six more runs in the fourth inning to seemingly put the game away.
Madison Uhlenbrauck pitched a stellar game, throwing a complete game with one run allowed on two hits. Uhlenbrauck had a shutout going until the bottom of the fourth when she gave up the only North Central run. The sophomore had a career-high with five strikeouts, while throwing only one walk.
MLC had an all-around performance at the plate and every position player recorded a base hit, providing great balance in the lineup.
Britney Prahl had a career-high in base hits (3), while
Lisa Hoffer went 3-4 and matched her career-high in runs scored (4).
As a team, MLC had five players with multi-RBI in the game.
Northwestern 12, MLC 0
The 4 p.m. game against Northwestern did not fair as well for the Knights as the earlier game against North Central did. The bats would fizzle off as the Knights were no-hit by the Eagles starting pitcher,
Ireland Strubbe. The 5'10" right-hander struck out six MLC batters in her 5 inning no-hitter, forcing the Knights into tough at-bats up and down the lineup.
Strubbe got plenty of run support too and the Eagles' offense extended their lead from 2-0 to 10-0 after an 8-run top of the third inning.
Jordyn Heckendorf and
Katelyn Rassat were the only baserunners of the game for MLC, after they both reached base on two walks.
Madison Uhlenbrauck was on the hill for her second start of the day, but struggled in this game, giving up 10 runs (8 earned) on 12 hits allowed.Â
With the split, MLC goes (4-14, 1-5) and will compete in the Crown Crossover for a second consecutive day when they face off against Crown and Minnesota-Morris on Saturday, April 15.Â
