Superior, WI - The MLC baseball squad was held scoreless in the doubleheader to UW-Superior on Sunday by the score of

UW-Superior 21, MLC 0
The onslaught of runs came early on for the Yellowjackets, as they took a 13-0 lead through the first two innings of play. The Yellowjackets hit it all over the yard, including a pair of home runs to help them build a large cushion over the Knights.Â
Zach Klement would last just one inning on the rubber and was issued the loss, giving up 8 runs. MLC would bring in
Caleb Carlovsky and
Caleb Heckendorf in relief to finish out the remainder of the game. MLC would give up a season-high 22 hits to UW-Superior.
The Knights would record just 3 hits offensively, with
Alex Ritter,
Carter Seltz, and
Christian Bachenburg getting a hit apiece.Â
UW-Superior 10, MLC 0
MLC kept themselves within striking distance in the second game on Sunday, as they were down just 3-0 at the end of the fourth inning. However, the window of opportunity would close soon after for MLC when the Yellowjackets knocked in another seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The offense for Superior was sparked by a couple of extra-base hits and the MLC pitching was unable to slow down them down.Â
Despite the loss,
Spencer Lilienthal pitched solid outing and the Yellowjackets' offense didn't figure out the junior until the bottom of the fifth inning. Lilienthal struck out 3 batters in 5.2 innings pitched.
The top of the batting order in Ritter, Lilienthal, and
Mason Cox produced three of the four hits in the game for MLC, while
Jordan Ramirez got on base with a single to right field in the top of the sixth inning.
With the three game sweep, the Knights go to (3-13, 0-8) on the season and will look to secure their first UMAC victory on Monday, April 24, when they face Crown at home. The two teams will make up a doubleheader that was previously scheduled last week.Â
