Northfield, MN - MLC baseball closed out its 2026 season with a nonconference doubleheader at Carleton College on Tuesday. MLC battled in both contests, but ultimately the Carleton Knights came out on top in each, beating the MLC Knights
9-5 in game one and
6-4 in game two.
Game 1 Carleton 9, MLC 5
After Carleton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, it was MLC's time to answer and the Knights did with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth frame off of a
Michel Krebs fielder's choice and a
John Westendorf RBI single.
The Carleton Knights claimed the lead back by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth, which included a triple and a 2-run home run.
MLC didn't give up tho and still made it a game in the top of the sixth when Westendorf roped a triple to right field, bringing in
Evan Kasa and
Nathan Vance.
Parker Winghart continued to add to his MLC lead in career doubles with one in the sixth to score Westendorf.Â
MLC cut it to 6-5, but the Carleton Knights capitalized on an MLC error and put up three additional runs in the bottom half of the inning to win 9-5.
Mark Vogel had a good game behind the plate for the Knights, picking off three Carleton base runners attempting to steal. Vogel also recorded two hits to lead MLC, along with Westendorf and Kasa.
Game 2 Carleton 6, MLC 4
Vogel picked up where he left off at the top of the first, hitting a 2-out RBI triple to right field to give the Knights an early 2-0 edge in the first inning. Carleton bounced back with a solo homer and a pair of doubles to snatch the lead 3-2. Vogel continued his solid hitting with an RBI double in the top of the third to tie it 3-3.
However, the bottom of the fourth made the difference in the outcome as MLC had three errors in the field, which led to a 3-run inning for Carleton. As a result, Carleton held on to the lead through the remainder of the action.
Vogel led with three RBI and three base hits, while Winghart paced the team in runs (2).
