Diersen took over the MLC men's cross country program in the fall of 2019, and brings a long history of coaching distance runners at various levels to the program.
Diersen joined the MLC faculty during the 2012-13 school year and has helped the track and field program as an assistant coach (and also as interim head coach in 2013), specializing in working with distance runners.Â
Diersen started his track and field coaching career in 1997 at Great Plains Lutheran High School (GPLHS), and was named Head Cross Country Coach at the school in 1999.
At GPLHSÂ Diersen was named Cross Country Area Coach of the Year in 2003, and added awards for Area Track & Field Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 thanks to numerous conference championships in both sports on the men's and women's side.
Since coming to New Ulm, Diersen served six seasons as an assistant cross country coach at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School (MVL).Â
