ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team won its season finale 3-2 at Crown Tuesday.
The Knights entered the game looking for its first win on the road this season, and fell behind 2-0 early after the Storm scored a pair of goals in the first 21 minutes.Â
Aaron Swanson stopped the Crown momentum, however, with a goal in the 27th minute to pull the Knights within one going into the half.Â
MLC would continue to press in the second half, and was rewarded when
Aaron Markgraf scored the equalizer off an assist from
Josh Koelpin in the 57th minute. Markgraf's goal was his seventh of the season.
The teams remained tied in until the 81st minute, when Swanson added his second goal of the game to give the Knights the win.
Swanson's two goals moved his team-leading total to 11 this season, and helped the Knights break out of a frustrating scoring drought dating back to his game-winning goal against Minnesota Morris on October 7.
The Storm scored on their first two shots, but MLC keeper
Caleb King stopped the final four shots on goal the rest of the way.
MLC finished the game with a 32-11 advantage in shots. Swanson and Markgraf led the way with seven and five shots, respectively, while
Ethan Schultz and
Eric Dorn were each credited with four.
The win moved closed the season for MLC with a record of 7-10-1. Storm fell to 2-12-3 in defeat.Â
