DULUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College football team was unable to slow St. Scholastica in the first half in a 53-13 loss on Saturday.
The Saints jumped on top from the start, scoring three times in a span of just over two minutes to take a big first quarter lead, while the CSS defense was able to hold the Knights out of the end zone in the first half.
The Knights were able to get the offense going in the second half, as
Matt Olson threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to
Joshua Arndt, and then closed the game with a three-yard touchdown run.
CSS finished the game with 423 yards of total offense, compared to 303 yards for MLC.
MLC ran for 188 yards, led by
Tim Keller and
Eddie Endicott with 63 and 59 yards, respectively.
Olson passed for 116 yards on six completions, with Arndt (55 yards on two receptions) and
Josh Rathje (50 yards on three receptions) leading the receivers.
Ben Ewings led the MLC defense with 11 tackles and one forced fumble.
MLC fell to 1-4 on the season and 0-4 in UMAC play in defeat. CSS improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 10, when they host Minnesota Morris for a game scheduled to kick-off at 1 p.m.
