NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team was unable to hold a two-goal lead in the second half in a 5-3 loss to Presentation on Sunday.
The Knights jumped ahead 2-0 early, as
Aaron Markgraf opened the scoring in the third minute with a blast from outside the box, and
Aaron Swanson followed with a goal in the ninth minute.
The Saints pulled within one thanks to a goal in the 37th minute, but Swanson pushed the MLC lead back to two with his second goal of the day early in the second period.
MLC was unable to hold that lead, however, due to a number of miscues and turnovers that gave the Saints goal-scoring opportunities. PC scored in the 56th and 69th minutes to tie the game, and then went ahead with a goal in the 74th minute. The Knights tried to come back, but the Saints were able to tack on an insurance goal in the 81st minute to seal the win.
Swanson's two goals gave him a team-best four on the season, while Markgraf's goal was his third of the season. Both players have now scored in each of the last three games.
Caleb King faced 14 shots in goal for MLC, stopping nine.
The Knights fell to 2-2 on the season in defeat, while PC improved to 3-5 with the win.
MLC will open UMAC play on Tuesday, September 15, when it travels to Minnesota Morris. That game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
