MORRIS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team opened the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) portion of its schedule with a 6-0 loss at Minnesota Morris on Tuesday.
MLC fell behind quickly, as the Cougars' Molly Hancuh scored in the fourth minute to give UMM the early lead.
The score remained 1-0 until the 34th minute, when the Cougars took control in the match with their first of three goals in the final 12 minutes of the half to take a 4-0 edge into the break.
The Knights were unable to slow down the UMM attack in the second, as the Cougars added goals in the 46th and 52nd minutes to get the final 6-0 margin.
MLC finished the match with eight shots, five of which were on net.
Jenna Maurer and
Emily Muir led the team with two shots on goal apiece.
In goal,
Julia Barthels stopped five shots for MLC.
The Knights fell to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Friday, September 18, when it hosts Crown College in a game scheduled to start as 4:15 p.m.
