DULUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team lost 95-71 at St. Scholastica on Saturday.
The Knights trailed 46-35 at the half, with
T.J. Babinec keeping the game within range with 15 points on 5-6 shooting from beyond the three-point arc in the first 20 minutes.
The Saints began to pull away in the second half, as the Knights were unable to keep them off the free throw line, and MLC was unable to get the deficit inside of single digits the rest of the way.
CSS shot 22-28 at the foul line for the game, out-scoring the Knights 22-3 from the charity stripe. The Saints also out-rebounded the Knights 47-31, leading to a 14-4 edge in second chance points.
Babinec finished the game with 20 points, making six of his nine attempts from three-point range. He now has at least six made three-point field goals in each of his last three games, and sits only four shy of the MLC single-season record of 64, set by Jeff Loberger during the 2002-03 season.
Todd Brassow led the Knights in scoring with 24 points, but needed 28 field goal attempts to reach that total. He also led the team with ten rebounds.
Michael Paulsen finished with 17 points and three assists for MLC.
The Knights fell to 1-16 on the season and 1-9 in UMAC play in defeat. CSS improved to 12-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, January 26, when it hosts Viterbo. The men will follow the women in that double header, with the men scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
