GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Martin Luther College football team lost 63-12 on Saturday at Greenville College.
The Panthers dominated play from the start, scoring 28 points in the first 20 minutes to take a big first half lead.
MLC was able to get on the scoreboard thanks to a
Josh Wong 13-yard, second quarter touchdown run, but found itself trailing 42-6 heading into the half.
Greenville continued to move the ball against the Knights in the second half, scoring three more times to put the game away. The Knights scored for the second time late in the fourth quarter on a one-yard
Ian Paulsen touchdown run.
The Panthers outgained the Knights 583-230, and had success through the air and on the ground. The Knights ran for 215 yards, but struggled through the air, completing only three of ten attempts for 15 yards.Â
T.J. Babinec was the leading MLC rusher with 122 yards on 15 carries, including a season-long run of 52 yards to set up Wong's second quarter score, but was part of an offense that lost six fumbles on the day.
Clayton Fury led the MLC defense with eight tackles and one sack.
Dan Schmidt added seven tackles and one tackle for loss.
MLC fell to 0-8 on the season and 0-7 in UMAC play in defeat. Greenville improved to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 29, when they travel to Iowa Wesleyan for a game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
