NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team finished its season with a 0-0 tie after two overtimes against St. Scholastica on Saturday.
The tie snapped an MLC losing streak against the Saints that dates all the way back to the 2005 season, when the two teams tied 1-1 in the final week of the season.
The Saints outhot the Knights 27-13 in this contest, but MLC had its chances.
Jenna Maurer and several MLC players had shots on goal late in the second half, but the CSS defense and keeper Roni Rudolph were able to make the important stops.
MLC keeper
Julia Barthels closed her career in style, saving all 11 CSS shots on goal to record her third shutout of the season (and fifth of her career). MLC senior defenders
Sarah Melcher and
Sarah Couture joined juniors
Sarah Kell and
Emily Muir in keeping the ball out of harm's way for much of the day in their final games for the Knights.Â
In all, seven seniors (seen in picture above) played for the final time for MLC in the contest. Maurer finished her career third in program history with 49 career goals, and tied for third with 112 career points.
