NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team lost Thursday against Concordia University Wisconsin 83-60.
Turnovers were costly throughout the game, but particularly in the first half when the Knights committed 15 miscues that led to 16 Falcon points, helping them build a 37-23 halftime edge.
CUW continued to build on that lead to start the second half, opening the second period with a 10-2 run and holding off the Knights the rest of the way.
In total, the Falcons outscored the Knights 33-10 off turnovers, and also held advantage in fast break points (18-4), in the paint (36-24). They also went 12-35 from beyond the three-point arc, while MLC shot 6-18 from distance.
Luke Rothe, playing in his first competitive sporting event since suffering significant injuries on the baseball field in April of 2015, led MLC with 12 points and added seven rebounds and two assists off the bench.
Richard Eckmann and
Josh VonDeylen joined him in double figures with ten points apiece, while
Ian Paulsen led the Knights with ten rebounds and three blocks.Â
The Knights fell to 0-2 on the season in defeat. CUW improved its record to 1-0 with the win.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, November 19, when it hosts Maranatha Baptist in a game scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m.
