MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team were unable to overcome 24 turnovers in a 65-52 loss at Bethany Lutheran on Saturday.
The Knights committed 24 turnovers in the game, leading to 26 BLC points. The Vikings committed 11 miscues in the game and outscored the Knights 26-4 in points off turnovers in the game.
BLC took control of the game early, leading 18-10 at the half and holding the Knights to only five points in the second quarter on the way to a 30-15 halftime lead. The MLC defense held the Vikings to only eight field goals in the first two periods, but BLC outscored the Knights 15-0 from beyond the three-point arc on the way to the lead.
The Knights were strong on the offensive end in the second half, but were unable to overcome the early deficit as the Vikings finished with the 13-point win.
MLC finished without a player scoring in double figures.
Grace Schultz led the team with nine points, and also finished with a team-best eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Jessica Friebe added seven points, while
Jordan Zeck led the players off the bench with five points.Â
The Knights fell to 6-11 overall and 4-5 in UMAC play in defeat. The Vikings improved to 8-9 on the season and 6-3 in conference play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Friday, January 27, when it hosts Minnesota Morris in a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
