NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to keep up with Viterbo University in a 99-41 loss on Monday.
The Knights simply couldn't buy a basket to open the game as they made one field goal in the game's first 13 minutes on the way to a 40-14 halftime deficit. MLC made just four of 26 shots in the opening half.
MLC was able to generate a little more offense in the second half, but the V-Hawks also started to hit more from the perimeter after the break as they continued to build the lead on the way to the win.
The Knights finished the game shooting 23.3 percent overall and made eight of 31 attempts from beyond the three-point arc. In the first half, MLC shot 2-16 from downtown.
TJ Babinec led MLC with 11 points thanks to three second-half three-pointers.
Kenton Fabian led the bench players with seven points and added three rebounds.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season in defeat. Viterbo improved to 7-3 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, Decamber 1, when they travel to Calvin College for a game scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. CST.
