NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College football team lost its season finale 63-26 against Eureka on Saturday.
The first quarter was filled with fireworks as the Knights answered Eureka's opening-drive touchdown with a 73-yard touchdown strike from
Ian Paulsen to
Joshua Arndt. The Knights then took a 12-8 lead thanks to a Paulsen 73-yard run against a Red Devil defense that entered the game allowing a UMAC-best 66.6 yards per game on the ground.
The Red Devils started to get their offense going from there as running back LeAnthony Reasnover recorded four first-half touchdowns, but
Elliott Butler and
Nate Stein touchdown runs kept the MLC deficit to 36-26 at the half.
Eureka took control from that point, forcing a pair of MLC turnovers to open the third quarter, and then stopping MLC on downs inside its own territory on the next possessions. Reasnover continued to roll in the third quarter, adding three more scores to finish with 252 yards and seven touchdowns on 25 carries.
The Knights were held to 56 yards in the second half and finished the game with 331 yards on offense. The Knights rushed for 165 yards, led by Paulsen's 93 yards on 12 carries. Paulsen also added 166 yards passing after completing six of his ten passes. Arndt led the team with 141 yards receiving on two catches.
Jake Kieselhorst finished with a team-best nine tackles on defense for MLC.
Keith Brassow recorded 3.0 tackles for loss, while
Joseph Herrewig intercepted a pass in the first half to go with a 79-yard kickoff return that set up Butler's eight-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.Â
MLC finished the season 5-5 overall and 4-5 in UMAC play. Eureka improved to 8-2 on the season and 8-1 in UMAC play, and also clinched at least a share of the conference championship with the win.
