NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team lost its game against UW-Stout on Monday by the score of 75-64.
The Knights struggled from the field in the first half, but senior guard
Grace Schultz kept them within striking distance at the half with only a 28-23 deficit. Schultz finished the first two periods with 16 points on 7-12 shooting, and also assisted on two of the team's other three made field goals in the half.
The Blue Devils started to take control with a 26-point third quarter, pushing their lead to 56-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
MLC fought back and cut the deficit to three points (66-63) with 1:51 to play following a Schultz driving lay-up, but the Blue Devils would put the game away from that point with a 9-1 run the rest of the way.
Schultz finished with a game-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks.
Moriah Hackbarth and
Hailey Johnson joined her in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Jade St. Germaine added 16 rebounds and three blocks for MLC.
Schultz entered the game only three points shy of 1,000 for her career, and became the third player in MLC women's basketball program history to reach that milestone with the win.Â
MLC fell to 2-6 on the season in defeat. UW-Stout improved to 5-3 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, December 6, when they open UMAC play with a game at North Central. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
