SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team led the majority of the game, but ran out of gas down the stretch in an 89-72 loss at UW-Superior on Friday.
The Knights never trailed in the first half on the way to a 42-38 lead at the break, and still held a three-point lead (60-57) with 11:49 to play in the game.
The Yellowjackets made their run at that point, however, taking control of the game with a 16-3 run over the next 4:50 of action to build a double-digit lead with 6:59 to play.
Nate Lindloff made one of his five three-point field goals to cut the deficit to seven, but the Knights could get no closer as the Yellowjackets continued their momentum the rest of the way to seal the win.Â
MLC took care of the ball in the first half, but miscues proved costly in the second half as they committed 19 turnovers in the game that led to 23 UWS points on the other end. The Knighs committed 14 of those turnovers in the second half.
Ian Paulsen led MLC with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lindloff finished with 15 points on five of eight shooting from beyond the arc, while
Luke Rothe added ten points and six rebounds off the bench.
The Knights fell to 1-19 overall and 0-12 in UMAC play in defeat. UWS improved to 6-15 on the season and 5-7 in conference play with the win.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, February 4) when it travels to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m.
