WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team swept both games of its doubleheader against Cazenovia College on Sunday by the scores of 2-0 and 7-5.

First-year players
Adam Kock and
Caleb Christopher led the Knights to a 2-0 win in the opener of the double header.
Kock was terrific on the mound in his collegiate debut, pitching all seven innings and allowing only three hits and two walks as he recorded his first career shutout.
Christopher provided all the run support his classmate would need in the fourth inning when he smashed a two-out single with the bases loaded to score both
Alex Smothers and
Jon Kock.
Christopher finished with two hits, as did first-year shortstop Matt Baehman. Baehman and Smothers also recorded one stolen base apiece in the game.
MLC 7, Cazenovia 5
The Knights built a big early lead and hung on late to finish off the sweep with a 7-5 win.
MLC scored all seven runs in the first two innings, as
Jon Kock,
Tom Keller and Christopher each recorded RBI hits. Kock and Keller each drove in three runs in their two at bats in those innings as the Knights built a 7-1 lead after two.
Smothers made that lead work for six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits before giving way to
Dillon Solomon for his first career save in the seventh inning. Smothers improved to 1-0 on the season with the win.
MLC finished with 12 hits in the game, led by three from Christopher and two each from
Jon Kock, Baehman and Keller.Â
The Knights improved to 3-3 on the season with the two wins, while Cazenovia fell to 0-2 to start the year following the sweep.
MLC will close its Florida trip tomorrow (Monday, March 6) when it faces Emerson in a double header scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
