NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team won both games of its doubleheader against North Central on Tuesday by the scores of 7-6 and 14-1.
MLC 7, NCU 6
MLC overcame a late deficit to win game one 7-6 on a walk-off sacrifice fly.
The Knights fell behind 6-4 after a four-run fifth inning by the Rams, but scored once in the bottom of the fifth inning, and then added two more in the seventh to earn the win.
Trailing by one run in the final inning,
Audrey Timm and
Amanda Schoch reached base on a hit by pitch and walk with one out.
Kayla Rosenbaum drove Timm in from third base on a groundout to third base, and Schoch scored the winning run thanks to an
Olivia Knudsen sacrifice fly.
Kelli Doell (4-3) earned the win after pitching three shutout innings in relief of starter
Rebecca Pruss.Â
Aimee Ashman led MLC with two hits in the game.
MLC 14, NCU 1 (5 innings)
MLC scored 10 runs in the second inning on the way to a 14-1 win in game two.
After a scoreless first inning, the Knights sent 15 batters to the plate on the way to 10 runs in the second inning.Â
That would be more than enough for starting pitcher
Morgan Palubicki (3-5), who held the Rams to just one run on three hits while striking out three.
Megan Lemke and Rosenbaum each recorded three hits in the game, with Rosenbaum also driving in a team-best five runs. First year players
Mykenna Schneiter and
Madison Ott each recorded their first career hits in the game.
MLC improved to 10-11 on the season and 4-4 in UMAC play following the sweep. NCU fell to 0-22 overall and 0-8 in league play with the two defeats.
The Knights will return to action on Thursday, April 13, when they travel to UW-River Falls for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
