NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team earned a doubleheader split against Northland College on Saturday. The Knights lost game one 4-3, but came back to win game two 2-1.
Northland 4, MLC 3
The Lumberjills scored three times in the top of the seventh inning on the way to a 4-3 win in game one.
The two teams were tied 1-1 after the sixth inning, but Northland took advantage of a pair of MLC errors to score three times off reliever
Kelli Doell.
The Knights threatened in the bottom half of the inning and scored two runs on a wild pitch, but the Lumberjills were able to strand the tying run at third base to close the game.
Doell (3-3) took the loss after allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits in one inning. Starting pitcher
Morgan Palubicki allowed only one run on nine hits in sixth innings of work.
MLC 2, Northland 1
MLC made the most of their two hits in a 2-1 win in game two.
The Knights were held hitless in the first three innings, but took advantage of an error and back-to-back hits by
Audrey Timm and
Kayla Rosenbaum to scratch across their only two runs of the game in the fourth frame.
That was more than enough offense for starting pitcher
Rebecca Pruss (3-3), who allowed just the one run on nine hits while striking out three to earn the win.
MLC moved to 8-11 overall and 2-4 in UMAC play following the split. Northland is now 4-16 on the season and 3-1 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, April 11, when they host North Central for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
