Knights Swept at NCU

COON RAPIDS, Minn.  - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its non-conference doubleheader at North Central on Thursday by the scores of 5-3 and 16-0.

NCU 5, MLC 3

NCU overcame an early MLC lead to win game one 5-3.

MLC senior catcher Jason Lindemann put MLC on the board with an RBI single in the first inning, and then added two doubles in his next two at bats to give him three hits and two runs batted in for the game

Lindemann's two runs batted in were not enough, as the Rams scored three times in the second inning, and then added one run in each of the fourth and fifth frames to build its lead.

Jon Kock scored Lindemann with a single in the third inning, but the Knights were unable to score in their final four at bats.

Tyler Roecker (0-1) started the game for MLC and took the loss after allowing all five runs on two hits and seven walks in four innings.

NCU 16, MLC 0

The Rams continued to roll in game two with a 16-0 win to secure the sweep.

MLC pitchers allowed 16 hits and walked eight NCU hitters in the game, while the Knights were held to only four hits.

Nate Goelzer (1-1) started the game for MLC and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on five hits and three walks. Caleb Gustafson and Grant Hagen pitched the final four innings in relief.

Caleb Christopher led MLC with two hits.

MLC fell to 6-24 following the wo losses, while NCU improved to 6-25 with the sweep.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, May 6, when they face Northwestern (Minn.) in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
