WINONA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team earned its first win of the season over Finlandia by the score of 2-1 on Sunday at Saint Mary's (Minn.).
The Knights jumped on top early thanks to a pair of first half goals. Senior defender
Elijah Kroll opened the scoring in the 40th minute with his first goal of the season off an assist from
Ethan Schultz, and then first-year forward
Luke Meihack first career goal goal in the final seconds before halftime off a pass from
Nathan Graumann to push the lead to 2-0.
Finlandia cut the MLC lead in half with a goal in the 65th minute, but the Knights held firm the rest of the way to secure the one-goal win.
MLC finished with a 12-7 advantage in total shots, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Schultz and Meihack led the MLC effort with a combined eight total shots and six shots on goal.
Caleb King earned the win in goal, stopping four of the Lions' five attempts.
MLC improved to 1-3 on the season with the win, while Finlandia fell to 1-2 with the loss.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, September 13, when they travel to Crown College for the UMAC opener. That game is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m.
