WINONA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team earned its first win of the season by the score of 5-0 against Finlandia at Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Sunday.
First-year midfielder
Lydia Bitter was the scoring star for the Knights, scoring three first half goals in the first 38 minutes.Â
Bitter scored her first (of the season and her collegiate career) in the 21st minute off an assist from
Morgan Hill, and then added her second unassisted in the 35th minute. She completed the hat trick in the 38th minute on a penalty kick.
Emily Muir joined in the scoring in the 40th minute to push the MLC lead to 4-0 late in the first half, and Hill scored the final tally off an assist from
Hailey Johnson in the 62nd minute.
The Knights dominated play, outshooting the Lions 23-1 overall and 12-1 in shots on goal. MLC keepers
Erin Feddersen and
Maria Tomassetti combined for the shutout.
MLC improved to 1-1-1 on the season with the win. The Lions dropped to 0-4 in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, September 13, when they open UMAC play at Crown College. That game is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
