STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team opened its season with a 1-1 tie after two overtimes at Buena Vista on Tuesday.
The Knights opened the scoring thanks to a BVU own goal in the 39th minute and held that lead past the midway point in the second half until the Beavers tied the score in the 76th minute.
The two teams battled through two overtime periods and 110 total minutes, but a winner could not be decided.
MLC finished the match with ten total shots and seven shots on goal.
Hailey Johnson led the way with three shots, while
Morgan Hill and
Kasandra Wagner each recorded two shots. Hill led the team with two shots on goal.
The veteran back line led by seniors
Sarah Kell and
Emily Muir played a strong game in front of keeper
Erin Feddersen, who saved seven of the eight shots she faced in her collegiate debut in goal.
MLC opened its season 0-0-1 with the tie, while the Beavers moved to 1-0-1 on the season.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, September 9, when they travel to Saint Mary's to face Nebraska Wesleyan in a match scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
