NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to take advantage of a season-high 15 three-point field goals in a 103-79 loss to Minnesota Morris on Wednesday.
The Cougars were the team that started hot from distance, making five of their first six from three-point range in the opening minutes on the way to a 51-39 halftime lead.
UMM continued its hot-shooting in the second half, but the Knights were able to keep within striking distance and cut the deficit to 12 points at 82-70 with just over six minutes to play before the Cougars put the game away with one final run.
The 15 three-point field goals were one shy of the MLC single-game record, set during the 1999-2000 season. MLC finished 15-37 from beyond the arc while UMM shot 12-23 from distance and made 56.1 percent of its field goals overall.
Four MLC players scored in double figures, led by 17 from
Nate Lindloff.
Jared Witkowiak added 16 off the bench, while Richard Eckamann and
Ian Paulsen finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Eckmann also led the team with nine rebounds.
MLC fell to 2-12 on the season and 1-5 in conference play in defeat. UMM improved to 6-8 overall and 5-1 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, January 13, when they host Northwestern (Minn.) in a game scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m.
