NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team broke a school single-game record with 13 three-point field goals in an 80-48 win over Northland on Saturday.
The Knights overwhelmed the LumberJills offensively, shooting 43.3 percent from the field and making 13 of 25 attempts from beyond the arc. The previous single-game record for three-pointers by the Knights was 11, set during the 2010-11 season.Â
The Knights raced to a 23-11 lead after the first quarter, and then closed the second period with an 11-2 run to take a 20-point halftime lead.Â
MLC put the game away in the third quarter, making six of eight attempts from three-point range as they outscored the LumberJills 30-11 to push the lead to 39 points.Â
Grace Schultz led the charge for MLC with 24 points in only 21 minutes. Schultz finished 8-14 from the field and also made six of her nine attempts from three-point range, one shy of the MLC single-game record.Â
Three other MLC players joined Schultz in double figures.
Jade St. Germaine scored 14 points to go with eight rebounds.
Emily Witkowski scored 12 points and led the team with six assists, while
Hailey Johnson finished with 10 points to go with a team-best 10 rebounds.
MLC improved to 5-13 on the season and 3-6 in UMAC play with the win. Northland fell to 1-16 overall and 0-9 in league play in defeat.Â
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, January 24, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran College for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
