NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team closed its season with a 0-0 tie against Northland College on Saturday.
The two teams battled back and forth for 90 minutes, but neither team was able to solve the other to scratch across a goal.
The Lumberjills doubled the Knights in shots (14-7) and recorded nine shots on goal in the first half, but MLC keeper
Mollie Fischer was up to the task and kept them off the board.
MLC started to generate more chances in the second half, but the game went to overtime scoreless after 90 minutes.
In overtime, the Knights'
Emily Witkowski and
Rachel Bitter were able to break loose with several good scoring opportunities, but neither team could find the back of the net in either extra period.
Fischer finished the day with 16 saves, marking the 11th time this season in which she stopped at least 10 shots on the way to her first shutout of the season.Â
Witkowski led MLC with six shots, while
Rachel Bitter and
Lydia Bitter each finished with five shots apiece.
MLC finished the season 3-14-1 overall and 3-8-1 in UMAC play following the tie. Northland moved to 7-8-2 on the season and 6-4-2 in league play.Â
