WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its double header against Anna Maria College by the scores of 13-2 and 9-3 at Chain of Lakes Park on Sunday morning.
Anna Maria 13, MLC 2
The Amcats jumped to an early lead and never looked back in a 13-2 win in game one.
Anna Maria scored five runs in the first inning off MLC starting pitcher
Adam Kock (0-1), and then added two more in the third to take a 7-1 lead. MLC's lone early run came on a single from
Jared Lindemann that scored
Karl Kuschel.
The Amcats continued to swing the bats throughout the game, and tacked on six runs in the final two innings.
Matt Baehman drove in the Knights' second run in the seventh frame with a sacrifice fly.
Kuschel finished the game with a pair of walks and scored both MLC runs.
Anna Maria 9, MLC 3
The Knights were unable to slow down the Anna Maria offense in a 9-3 game two defeat.
First-year pitcher
Joey Behm (0-1) had a strong debut on the mound, striking out nine Amcats in five innings, but allowed six runs (five earned) on 11 hits as he took the loss.
Anna Maria broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning, and then scored at least one run in each of the last four innings.
Baehman led MLC with two hits and scored one run.
Tyler Roecker and
Dillon Solomon also scored for MLC.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season following the two defeats. Anna Maria improved to 3-4 with the two wins.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Monday, March 5) when they play a double header against Westminster (Pa.). First pitch of game one is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
