NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against Viterbo University on Thursday by the scores of 10-8 and 7-3.
VU 10, MLC 8
Viterbo scored a pair of runs in the final inning to win a back-and-forth game one by the score of 10-8.
The V-Hawks broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run fifth inning off MLC reliever
Mykenna Schneiter, but the Knights roared right back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning, capped by a grand slam home run by center fielder
Audrey Timm that tied the score at 8-8.
Viterbo was able to respond, however, scoring twice in the final inning off MLC starter
Morgan Palubicki (3-8), who re-entered the game to pitch the final two frames.
Timm and
Kayla Rosenbaum each recorded three hits to lead MLC in defeat.
VU 7, MLC 3
The V-Hawks completed the sweep with a 7-3 win in game two.
Erika Rosenbaum, Cassie Doering and Timm drove in runs in the first four innings to give MLC a 3-2 lead, but the V-Hawks tied the game in the fifth, and then tallied four runs in the final two frames to take home the win.
Rebecca Pruss (3-8) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 5.1 innings.
MLC fell to 6-16 on the season after the two defeats. Viterbo improved to 12-27 with the two wins.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Friday, April 27) when they travel to Crown College for a doubleheader.
