ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College softball team swept both games of its doubleheader against Northland College by the scores of 12-1 and 13-3 on Saturday at Northwestern-St. Paul.
MLC 12, NC 1 (5 innings)Â
The Knights jumped on top early and never let up in a 12-1 win in five innings in game one.
MLC scored once in the first inning, and then put the game away with nine runs in the second frame on the way to the win.
Morgan Palubicki (4-8) started the game and pitched the first three innings, allowing only one hit and zero runs before
Mykenna Schneiter finished the final two innings in relief.
The Knights smashed 17 hits in the game, with
Audrey Timm's three-run home run in the second inning working as the exclamation point to the offensive explosion.
Aimee Ashman finished with a team-high three hits, while
Madison Ott and
Erika Rosenbaum each finished with two hits and two runs batted in.
MLC 13, NC 3 (5 innings)
MLC finished the sweep with a 13-3 win in five innings in game two.
The Lumberjills scored once in each of the first three innings, but couldn't slow down an MLC offense that scored at least once in each inning. Timm added her second home run of the day (and her fourth of the week) in the fourth inning as the Knights scored five runs to push the lead to 10-3.
Timm finished the game with four hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Rebecca Doering,
Kayla Rosenbaum,
Samantha Schoch and Ashman each finished with two hits for MLC.
That was more than enough offense for
Rebecca Pruss (6-8), who earned the win after pitching the first three innings and allowing three runs.
MLC improved to 10-16 on the season and 7-7 in UMAC play with the sweep. Northland fell to 2-27 overall and 1-14 in conference play following the two defeats.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Sunday, April 29) when they host Minnesota Morris in the final doubleheader of the regular season.Â
