HERMANTOWN, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team saw its season come to an end in the semifinal round of the UMACÂ Tournament with a 7-2 loss at top seed St. Scholastica on Monday.
The Knights entered the match as the fourth seed following a 4-3 conference season, and fell behind 3-0 early after losing the three doubles matches by the scores of 8-4, 8-2 and 8-1.
Anna Hemmelman earned a straight sets win (7-6, 6-4 in number one singles to put MLC on the board, and
Morgan Shevey added a three-set win (4-6, 6-4, 1-0) in her number four match, but the Saints were able to win the other four matches to secure the team win.
With her singles win, Hemmelman finished the season with an 11-match winning streak in singles. Earlier in the day, she was named UMAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week.
MLC finished the season 7-9 following the loss. CSS improved to 13-6 with the win.
