Baseball Only Finishes One at Crown

WATERTOWN, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team played for seven hours at Crown College on Tuesday, but was only able to finish one game of its doubleheader due to lightning. The Knights lost game one 10-9 in 11 innings. Game two was stopped in the bottom of the ninth inning with MLC leading 4-1. The game is likely to be resumed at a date yet to be determined.

Crown 10, MLC 9 (11 innings)

MLC was unable to hold a four-run eighth-inning lead in a 10-9 loss in 11 innings in game one.

Caleb Christopher hit his first home run of the season in the second inning to get the Knights on the board, and the team built a 9-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Storm scored once in the sixth, and hen added three more in the eighth to cut the MLC lead to 9-8 heading into the final frame. Crown scored once in that inning to force extra innings, and then won the game with a two-out single in the 11th inning off MLC reliever Dillon Solomon (1-4).

Christopher had a big game at the plate with four hits and four runs batted in. Matt Baehman, Adam Westra and Solomon each finished with a pair of hits for the Knights.

MLC 4, Crown 1 (postponed)

Game two was stopped with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning with MLC leading 4-1.

Baehman pitched a gem for MLC, allowing only one run on seven hits while striking out 11 Storm batters. Baehman remained in the game with one runner on base when the game was called due to weather.

The Knights built an early 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of unearned runs, and then added to it in the top of the ninth with two insurance runs.

Baehman also had a strong game at the plate with four hits and one RBI.

MLC fell to 2-17 on the season and 0-11 in UMAC play following the game one defeat. Crown improved to 4-18 overall and 1-10 in conference play with the win.

At this time, the plan is to schedule a date for game two to be resumed.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday, May 3, when they play a doubleheader at Carleton.
