NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost 2-0 against the Beavers of Buena Vista University on Saturday.

The Knights had several strong scoring chances in the first half, but strong goalkeeping on both sides kept the game scoreless heading into the second half. MLC keeper Mollie Fischer started and stopped six shots in the first half, while BVU keeper Katie Voortmann turned away five MLC shots on goal.

The Beaves jumped on the board early in the second half with a goal by Holly Coogler in the 50th minute to take a 1-0 lead. 

That score stood for much of the second half, but the Knights were unable to get the kinds of chances they generated earlier in the game before the Beavers added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to put the game away.

Morgan Hill had several of the Knights' best chances early in the game and finished with six total shots, three of which were on goal. Lydia Bitter added three shots on goal for the Knights. 

Maria Tomassetti entered the game in goal for MLC in the second half and stopped seven of the nine shots she faced in relief.

MLC fell to 0-3 on the season in defeat. BVU improved to 1-2 with the win.

The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, September 12, when they host Northwestern for the conference-opener. That game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
