Graumann Scores Two in 2-1 Win Over UMM

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Minnesota Morris on a cold and windy Tuesday afternoon at Knight Field.

Senior Joe Graumann scored both goals in the game for MLC to give him a team-leading eight goals this season and 36 for his career, tying him with Karl Valleskey for fourth on the MLC all-time goal scoring list. He also tied Valleskey on the all-time points list with 88 for his career.

Graumann opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a header off Clay Hirsch's corner kick to give the Knights a 1-0 lead, but the Cougars tied the game at the 39:00 mark with a penalty kick to send the game to halftime 1-1.

The teams remained tied until the 88th minute, when Graumann once again took a pass from Hirsch and blasted a shot past the UMM keeper from the right side of the box to give the Knights the win.

Graumann finished with five total shots, including two shots on goal, to lead all players. Josh Thiesfeldt and Hirsch each finished with four shots for the Knights.

MLC keeper Joshua Higgins stopped five of the Cougars' six shots on goal.

The Knights improved to 4-9-2 on the season and 2-3-0 in UMAC play with the win. UMM fell to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in league play in defeat.

MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 19, when it hosts Northwestern-St. Paul in a game scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
