NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost 2-0 to Minnesota Morris on a pair of second half goals on Tuesday.
The Knights fought the Cougars to a scoreless first half on a cold and windy day on the pitch at Knight Field, but UMM would strike early in the second half in the 49th minute on a goal from Monica Calderon.
MLC had several opportunities in the second half, but the Cougars were able to control possession with the wind at their backs after the break and finally added the second goal with just 21 seconds remaining when Calderon countered an aggressive MLC attack with a breakaway goal to seal the game.
The Cougars finished with 19 shots compared to six for the Knights, and outshot MLC 10-4 in shots on goal for the game.Â
MLC keeper
Mollie Fischer finished with eight saves, while
Lydia Bitter led the Knights with two shots on goal.
The Knights fell to 5-7 on the season and 2-2 in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 19, when it hosts Northwestern-St. Paul in a game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
