BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team opened its season with a 104-37 win over Oak Hills Christian at a two-day tournament hosted by Bemidji State on Friday.
The Knights dominated from the opening tip, shooting 57.0 percent from the field as all 14 players scored.
MLC took a 50-17 lead at the half, and then continued its strong play on both ends of the court in the second half on the way to the 67-point win.
The Knights' offense was steady throughout, making nine of 19 attempts from beyond the three-point arc to go with its overall shooting percentage. On defense, MLC held Oak Hills Christian to 24.5 percent from the field and forced 24 turnovers that turned into 37 points on the other end.
Jonathan Riebe led five MLC players in double figures with 16 points with the help of 4-5 shooting from downtown to go with four assists.
Jack Heichelbech added 15 points, while
Nathan Spaude (11 points),
Joseph Hirsch (10) and
Joey Behm (10) also scored in double figures.
Spaude also led the team with seven rebounds, while
Jared Witkowiak led the Knights with five assists. Hirsch added four steals to lead the defensive effort.
MLC improved to 1-0 on the season with the win. Oak Hills Christian fell to 0-2 in defeat.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, November 16) when they play Bemidji State in an exhibition game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
