OWATONNA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team dropped both its matches at a triangular at Owatonna Tennis Center on Saturday. The Knights lost to both Morningside and Northwestern (Iowa) by the final of 6-3.
Morningside 6, MLC 3
The Knights fell just short in a 6-3 defeat to Morningside.
The number three doubles team of
Tatum Bollmeier and
Dana Pietrzyk won their match 8-5, but Morningside took the other two matches by the scores of 8-4 and 8-1 to take a 2-1 overall lead.
In singles,
Anna Hemmelman came back to win her number one match in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 1-0) with a dominating 10-0 tiebreaker win, and Bollmeier joined her in the win column with a 6-4, 6-4 win in number six singles.
Morgan Shevey battled in number three singles, but fell in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).
NWC 6, MLC 3
Following a similar script to the Morningside match, Hemmelman and Bollemeier scored singles wins, while the team of Bollmeier and Pietrzyk won their doubles match.
Both Hemmelman (4-6, 6-3, 1-0) and Bollmeier (5-7, 6-4, 1-0) won in three sets after dropping the first set, while Shevey dropped her number three singles match in three sets (7-6, 4-6, 1-0). The team of Bollmeier and Pietrzyk won their doubles match 8-5.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season following the two defeats. The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, February 19, when they take on North Central University at LIfetime Fitness Center in Lakeville, Minn.
