DUNDAS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team was unable to get the bats going in a doubleheader sweep by St. Olaf at the Dundas Dome on Saturday. The Oles won the two games by the scores of 3-0 and 9-2.
St. Olaf 3, MLC 0
The Knights were held without a hit in a 3-0 loss in game one.
St.Olaf starting pitcher Julie Graf was the story of the game as she held MLC without a hit while striking out 16 batters. The Knights' only base runners came on a
Kayla Rosenbaum walk in the first inning and
Madison Ott hit by pitch in the fifth frame.
The Oles took advantage of a pair of MLC errors to score two unearned runs off starting pitcher
Morgan Palubicki (0-3) in the second inning, and then tacked on an insurance run off reliever
Rebecca Pruss in the fifth to finish the scoring.
St. Olaf 9, MLC 2
MLC once again was unable to generate much at the plate in a 9-2 loss in game two.
The Knights had a great chance to put up a big number in the second inning thanks to three walks and a St. Olaf error, but settled for taking a 2-1 lead without registering a hit.
The Oles took advantage, scoring four times in the bottom of the second and three more in the third off Pruss (0-1), who started the game for the Knights and allowed eight runs (six earned) on nine hits in 3.0 innings of work.
Rosenbaum reached base twice and drove in one of the runs with a walk, while
Amber Barcalow registered the team's lone hit.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season following the two defeats. St. Olaf improved to 2-2 with the sweep.
The Knights will return to action in Fort Meyers, Fla., when they start their spring trip on March 8 against Albion.
