Knights Unable to Hold Leads at BLC

MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team was unable to hold on to leads in both games of a doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran College as they dropped both games by the scores of 7-6 and 7-4.

BLC 7, MLC 6

The Vikings overcame a two-run deficit in the sixth inning and won the game in the bottom of the seventh by the score of 7-6.

Trailing 4-3 after five innings, MLC scored three times in the top of the sixth frame with the help of a two-run home run by Elena Hoffman and an RBI-single from Becca Doering.

That lead would be short lived, however, as BLC scored twice off MLC starting pitcher Rebecca Pruss (5-4) in the bottom half, and then walked off with a win thanks to a one-out single in the seventh.

Pruss finished allowed seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits in 6+ innings of work. Brittany Denn hit her second home run of the season in the third inning and finished with two RBI, while Kayla Rosenbaum finished with three hits and two runs scored.

BLC 7, MLC 4

BLC erased a three-run deficit thanks to six unanswered runs to close the game to secure a 7-4 win in game two.

The Knights led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Vikings came back to score six times in that inning to take a three-run lead they would hold the rest of the way.

MLC jumped on top thanks to RBI-singles from Jodi Halvorson and Brett Burger in the second inning, followed by a Samantha Schoch double in the fourth frame that scored Denn, who led off the rally with a two-out double.

Morgan Palubicki (1-11) took the loss for the Knights, allowing all seven runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings.

MLC fell to 7-15 overall and 3-7 in UMAC play following the two losses. BLC improved to 20-9 on the season and 10-0 in league play with the sweep.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday, April 18, when they travel to Northwestern-St. Paul for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
