LAKEVILLE, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team closed the 2019 season with a 5-4 defeat to Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday at Lifetime Fitness Center.
The Knights behind early as the Vikings took two of the three doubles matches. The number-one team of
Anna Hemmelman and
Morgan Shevey won 8-2, but the Vikings took the other two matches by the scores of 8-3 and 8-5.
MLC needed four wins in singles play to earn the team win, but was only able to get three of them. Hemmelman won in number-one singles 6-2, 6-1. Shevey won 6-1, 6-1 in the number-three match, while
Tatum Bollmeier also won in straight sets in number-six singles by the scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Hemmelman finished her season 13-4 in singles play, including a 6-1 mark against conference foes. Bollmeier also finished above .500 on the season with a 9-6 mark in number-six singles.Â
MLC fell to 5-12 on the season and 2-5 in league play in defeat. BLC improved to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the UMAC with the win.
