STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost its 2019 season-opener 1-0 at Buena Vista on a goal late in the second half.

The Knights peppered the BVU goal with shots throughout the contest, finishing with 28 total shots and 18 shots on goal, but weren't able to get anything past BVU keeper McKeely Tjaden.

In the 80th minute, BVU's Ella Wiebusch scored the game's only goal, putting the Beavers ahead by the final 1-0 margin.

The Knights controlled the action for much of the night, outshooting the Beavers 28-5 overall and 18-3 in shots on goal. 

Mollie Fischer stopped two of three BVU shots on goal. Lydia Bitter and Mary Falck each finished with six total shots and five shots on goal for MLC.

MLC will return to action on Monday, September 2, when it hosts Nebraska Christian College. That game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
