NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team scored a 4-0 win over Bethany Lutheran College in non-conference play on Wednesday.
Forward
Mary Falck entered the game without a goal so far this season, but broke loose for three goals in the first half to give MLC a 3-0 halftime lead. Falck's first goal came off a deflection in the box, while her second two goals were assisted by
Carissa Friebe and
Francis Santos Hernandez.Â
The score remained 3-0 until the 66th minute, when midfielder
Lydia Bitter scored off a free kick from well outside the box on a well-placed shot over the head of the keeper into the far corner of the net. The goal was Bitter's third this season, and she also led the Knights with five total shots for the game (three on goal).
Keeper
Mollie Fischer recorded her third shutout of the season (fourth of her career) with eight saves, including several breakaway attempts. The reigning UMAC Defensive Player of the Week has allowed only four goals total in the team's five games so far this season.
MLC out-shot the Vikings 16-10 for the game, including a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.
The Knights improved to 3-2-0 on the season with the win. BLC fell to 3-3-0 in defeat.Â
MLC will return to action on Saturday, September 21, when it hosts Viterbo in a game scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
