NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team lost to UMAC-leading UW-Superior 78-48 on Saturday.
The Knights came out strong to open the game, but the Yellowjackets closed the first quarter with a buzzer-beater three-point field goal to take a 22-15 lead.
UWS began to separate itself in the second quarter, out-scoring MLC 21-10 to built a 43-25 halftime lead, and then put the game away in the third quarter by hold the Knights to only seven points on the way to the win.
MLC showed its experience from early in the season by taking better care of the ball against the aggressive Yellowjacket defense, but still committed 24 turnovers (leading to 30 UWS points) and was held to 27.9 percent shooting from the field.
The Yellowjackets were active on the defensive end, finishing with 13 steals and 12 blocked shots.
Emily Witkowski led the Knights with 15 points.
Cassandra Rose added seven points and team-high 10 rebounds off the bench.
Kati Aguilar blocked four shots to go with four points and five rebounds.
MLC fell to 0-13 on the season and 0-6 in UMAC play in defeat. UWS improved to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, January 15, when they travel to Crown College for a game scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
