NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team struggled to shoot the ball in a 77-48 loss to Minnesota Morris on Wednesday.
The Cougars made five three-point field goals in the first quarter to take a 27-12 lead, and then held MLC to 1-16 shooting in the second quarter as they built a 43-15 halftime edge the Knights could not recover from.
The Knights shot better in the second half (36.4 percent), but finished the game shooting 28.8 percent overall and 22.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc.Â
UMM's length was difficult for the Knights to overcome as the Cougars blocked 12 shots to go with 10 steals.
Emily Witkowski was the lone MLC player in double figures with 10 points.
Kortney Behnke scored seven points to go with six rebounds and three steals.Â
MLC fell to 1-15 on the season and 1-7 in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, January 25, when they travel to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to tip off at 4:45 p.m.
